Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Honors Colorado’s Best

(Denver, CO – May 2, 2008) The Bonfils-Stanton Foundation announced today the winners of three statewide awards for lifetime achievements in Arts and Humanities, Community Service and Science and Medicine.

Often called “Colorado’s Nobels,” the Bonfils-Stanton Awards will be presented to:

  • Maggie Divelbiss, champion of the arts in Southern Colorado; executive director of the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center in Pueblo (Arts and Humanities)
  • Harry Lewis, business and community leader dedicated to the economic and cultural improvement of the greater Denver area (Community Service)
  • David Wineland, distinguished physicist and world leader in the field of low temperature atomic physics (Science and Medicine).
  • Each honoree will receive a $35,000 award.

Created in 1984, the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Awards program strives both to honor achievement and to motivate future leaders. Past winners include Marin Alsop, Noel Cunningham, former Governor Dick Lamm and Nobel Laureates Dr. Carl Wieman and Dr. John L. Hall.

The Foundation also announced its 2008 Livingston Fellowship Awards. Established in 2005 and named for Chairman Emeritus Johnson R. Livingston, this program selects five high potential Colorado nonprofit leaders and invests in their advanced learning and development. Grants of $25,000 will be awarded to the organizations of each Fellow to support their fellowship experiences.

The 2008 Livingston Fellows are:

  • Carl Clark, M.D., CEO of the Mental Health Center of Denver
  • Tamara Door, President and CEO of the Downtown Denver Partnership, Inc.
  • Adam Lerner, Executive Director of The Laboratory of Arts and Ideas at Belmar, Lakewood
  • Christy Whitney, President and CEO of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, Grand Junction
  • Jesse Wolff, President and CEO of The Kempe Foundation, Denver
