Lance Cheslock

Lance Cheslock was appointed Executive Director of La Puente Home in Alamosa in 1989. This multifaceted organization provides a comprehensive continuum of services addressing issues related to homelessness and poverty throughout the San Luis Valley. Lance is a graduate of Colorado College and spent three years in Haiti with Habitat for Humanity. Through the Fellowship, he hopes to deepen his understanding of rural homeless issues regionally and nationally and become a more effective advocate in inspiring action on behalf of the neediest in our communities. He plans to visit leading programs around the country and document their successes, make connections with national policy makers and thought leaders, and create a collection of teaching stories that can further understanding and dialogue.

Tom Downey

Tom Downey

Tom Downey has been the Executive Director of The Children’s Museum of Denver since 2005. The Museum strives to create a community where children and their grownups learn through play. Tom earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and his J.D. from Villanova School of Law. Following more than a decade of practicing law, he decided to pursue his passion in early childhood education. He will use his Fellowship to gain a broader and deeper knowledge of the nonprofit sector with a particular focus on policy and best practices. He will also participate in leadership and management training to further develop his administrative skills and assist him in prioritizing and executing opportunities to expand the physical and programmatic capacities of the Museumn.

Lucille Johnson

Lucille Johnson

Lucille Johnson serves as the Director of Health Initiatives at the Center for African-American Health. Formerly The Metro Denver Black Church Initiative, the Center is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the African-American community. Lucille earned her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Regis University. Following her career as a manager and operations supervisor with US West, she joined the Center in 2001. As a Livingston Fellow, she hopes to gain a greater understanding of public policy and how policy changes translate to community change; evaluate models and best practices for effective community-based interventions; observe local, regional, national and international leaders; and study how leaders can stay resilient over the long term.

Barclay Jones

Barclay Jones

Barclay Jones is Vice President, Assets for Family Success, at Mile High United Way in Denver. This division focuses on developing programs and partnerships to provide financial stability for families and oversees a community effort to assist young people in the foster care system to become self-sufficient adults. Barclay is a graduate of the University of Colorado and joined Mile High United Way in 2004. With his Fellowship, he will examine alternative management and leadership models that could help the nonprofit sector respond to increasing expectations and growing complexity by operating in new and creative ways. He also plans to explore organizational and collaborative structures that lead to more sustainable and effective outcomes.

Patty Ortiz

Patty Ortiz

Patty Ortiz has been the Executive Director of Museo de las Americas since 2005. Located in Denver’s revitalized Sante Fe district, the Museo strives to educate the community about the diversity of Latin American art and culture, from ancient to contemporary. Patty earned her Bachelors of Fine Art at the University of Texas at Austin and her Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She plans to use her Fellowship to study fundraising models and create one appropriate for the Museo; research the management styles of model leaders in business as well as the nonprofit sector; and develop mentorships with several directors/curators of museums in the U.S. and Latin America.
