GRANT-MAKING STRATEGIES
The Foundation strives to be a strategic investor and partner, directing its support – both financial and in-kind – to strengthen the effectiveness, sustainability, and impact of nonprofit organizations that make significant contributions to the quality of life for Coloradans.

Most grant recipients will be mature organizations that demonstrate strong leadership, effective management, and a track record of effectiveness based on measurable outcomes.  In many instances, they will be organizations positioned to increase their impact through strategic investments in organizational capacity and infrastructure.  Due to limited resources, preference is given to organizations that have an established relationship with the Foundation.

Nonprofit organizations receive support through four grant-making strategies:

Operating Support
Operating grants are usually directed to specific programs, projects or initiatives. Most often these operating grants are focused on one-time needs. Grants are not generally made for unrestricted operating support.

Capital Projects
Grants for capital projects are generally reserved for organizations with which the Foundation has an established relationship. Grants for major capital campaigns are considered after 75% of the campaign goal has been met.

Capacity-Building Grants
The Foundation will invest in selected nonprofit organizations committed to making systemic changes to improve their effectiveness. Capacity-building grants help organizations achieve targeted outcomes in such areas as organizational leadership, financial capacity, product and service improvements, board effectiveness, and community engagement. Recipients of capacity-building grants will generally be current grant recipients or organizations with which the Foundation has an established relationship.

Catalyst Partnerships
At the initiation of the Foundation’s Trustees, the Foundation will make multi-year investments in leading organizations that are already effective in what they do and are positioned to move to a higher level of performance and impact. Catalyst grants are designed to make significant and measurable improvements in key organizational areas such as infrastructure, governance, leadership or service delivery. Catalyst grants, combined with technical assistance and non-financial support, are intended to have broad organizational impact and serve as learning models for others.

Before submitting a proposal, interested organizations
are requested to call the Foundation.
