Emerging Leaders in Development is a new professional advancement opportunity for fundraising professionals. This innovative program evolved from discussion convened by the Foundation to address current challenges in nonprofit fundraising. The program is sponsored by a partnership of volunteer mentors, foundation funders, the Colorado Association of Fundraising Professionals and the University of Denver and hosted by University College at the University of Denver.
The year-long program includes both individual mentoring and a core curriculum. Each “emerging leader” is paired with a primary development mentor and has access to a pool of mentors representing the full range of development skills. “Emerging leaders” also participate in a shared core curriculum focused on the fundamental components of development work: board and CEO relationships, the development office, the donor relationship, fundraising ethics, and personal style and communication skills.
A nomination panel identifies potential candidates from nonprofit organizations throughout Colorado. Successful candidates bring a minimum of three years experience in fund development, show promise of becoming a leader in the development field, and have potential to be a strong role model for other development professionals.
The goal of Emerging Leaders in Development is to advance the field of nonprofit development and develop a pipeline of fundraising professionals for Colorado nonprofit organizations.
